Poprocket: Indie Rot
[Stealth Kitty]

The little three-piece that is Poprocket really know how to tip their hats to the best that rock has to offer. On the groups second EP, entitled Indie Rot, one can clearly hear how the gods of rock have (sub)consciously influenced Poprocket. The result isnt what youd expect: no gimmicks, no rip-offs, simply the seamless integration of time-tested elements with a special little Poprocket twist.

Hey, Andy! commences the EP by proving that, secretly, Freddie Mercury and Rob Halford made gay babies and that vocalist Jay Garrigan is their biological son. Elsewhere on the much-too-short five-song EP, one is witness to a host of other vocal stylings by Garrigan, backed with bouncy pop and straight-up legitimate rock. Love Will Destroy Us is a pop-fest with unnecessarily overwrought vocals, but the quivering drama is irresistibly brilliant. And what homage to the greats would be complete without a little Jeff Buckley/Robert Plant mlange? Deep Sea Wishing brings it all home with just that.

Is there anything that Poprocket cannot do? Probably not. This EP offers something for EVERY self-respecting rockaholic, and its all sans irony. So, this time its hats off to Poprocket.
