The Post: In the Event of Tomorrow
[Jalisco]

The atmospheric, electronic haze in a framework of angst-filled hard rock is what to expect from the latest release by The Post, In the Event of Tomorrow.  But, through the swirling climaxes, one is also struck by the albums unmistakable likeness to Radioheads OK Computer.  It is this likeness that serves as both benefit and drawback to The Post.  While the new release is worthy of a listen, the band still stands in the shadow of one of the greats.

Opening on tracks like Where are the Wolves, the listener is initially hit with the gritty, painful pleasure of The Post.  Melodic guitars and crying vocals are layered on a structure of pounding drums and aching melodies.  The strengths fall with the bands tendency toward interesting rhythms and time signatures that create a swirling, dynamic rock atmosphere.  The listener is caught up by images of life and all its the pretty little scars.

The Post hits a high point with tracks like, Into the Lifeboats and Shattered at the Mouthpiece.  These are the moments when the band finds its sweet niche in the realm of the dirty drumlines and the haunting vocals.  Through each rise, the climaxes intensify; and in the end, the listener is worn ragged by the emotional journey of The Post.

Of course, as mentioned previously, through the meaty guitars and electronic static, its nearly impossible to deny the influence of Radiohead, and its nearly impossible to recognize that The Post falls short.  Its the comparison that causes this band to be held to a higher standard.  Perhaps more time and demands set on the recording studio would have benefited the album.  But, as it is, In the Event of Tomorrow fails to realize its endless potential, leaving the listener with merely a decent release and the hope of something beautiful to come.
