Quiet After Nine: Arrangements
First impression: the artwork on this album is fantastic. In fact, this release has some of the best artwork I've seen in a while. Great job, Logan Whitehurst. If the music is as good as the artwork, then I predict this to be a fantastic album. So here we go. The recording is pretty decent, the guitars sound great, and the vocals sound a little rough sometimes but overall pretty good. The songs are a little bit punk, a little bit pop, and a little bit emo. The album definitely has a good post-punk sound going on overall. Some of the more upbeat songs are a little bit boring and repetitive, but the slower/quieter songs more than make up for this. Track three, "Unconvinced and Independent," is truly amazing. The cello sings sad tones that give the song a lot of character - very pretty. The best of the "upbeat" songs is track seven, "Your Improv Killed." Very catchy. Track 8, "A Momentary Lapse," is a dreamy tune with wonderful texture and great vocal arrangements. My personal favorite is track five, "The Bleeding is Receding," which sounds a little like Mock Orange, with its fantastic mathy beat and guitar riffs. The vocals are nearly perfect on this track as well. So in conclusion, these Seattle rockers really have a great sound, especially when they turn it down. Maybe as they get a little older, and their energy is expended, more of their songs will be mellow. When that time comes, I think this band will be a household name. Until then, I think they are really someone to keep your eye on.
