Resin: Debut EP
[self-released]

Musicians who write, record, mix, and master everything using their own equipment can be difficult to find these days. So kudos to Resin for being so authentic. With their debut EP straightforwardly titled Debut, theyre making their mark on the east coast.  Their influences range from reggae and dub music of the 70s, punk rock of the early 90s all the way to the Neptunes, DJ Premier and Kanye West. Starting it off with a solid seven tracks, each song showcases the bands versatile musical tastes and talents.

Launching their first song with Come Correct, this immediately felt more like a folk reggae tune. Images of campfires on a beach pop into the mind with an easygoing sound of the acoustic guitar fused with the occasional muted drum beats. By the end of the song, it trails off with a kind of irritating echo of face-cringing sounds, but feelings of nostalgia are what remain.

Trailblazer was the most ear-pleasing track by far. For some reason, this song is reminiscent of an eclectic vocal combination of 311 and Weird War. It strictly follows common reggae beats, and while the beats are slow, they are still full of rhythm and soul. The messages dont beat around the bush and get straight to the point. Step aside and let the mirrored lies curve an endless line.

Currently, one of the members can be found producing new tracks in Long Island and the other playing acoustic shows in Washington, D.C. This hardworking duo described the essence of their music with much sincerity: Soulful tunes made in the midst of a chaotic world we embrace as our own. They couldnt have said it any better. Every music revolutionary should give this a listen.
