Restraining Order: Last Time You Took Me Back
Restraining Orders Last Time You Took Me Back was much fun to listen to. The 14-track release is chock full of talented musicians playing to quick tempos. I enjoyed each spunky track from More Complex Than Sex, to Drop That Bitch, to Allergic to You. The CD contains liner notes (scores points with me) with lyrics (even more points) and there is only one track longer than four minutes. Perhaps this is a testament to how speed-oriented our society has become, but songs longer than four minutes tend to lose my interest rather quickly. Having said that, Last Time You Took Me Back is a solid piece of work. Unfortunately, the lyrics are sometimes washed out by their music, which became a hindrance for me as I tried to listen to the lyrical content of the songs. The lead singer, Jason Rubin, appears to have adequate vocal talent, though again, the sound quality leaves much to be desired. The drummer, Steve Spatucci, has his work cut out for him as each track is heavily laced with drumbeats and cymbals. Rick Eberharter, the bassist, and the other two guitarists, Phil Green and Frank Rubin showcase their abilities in each song. Unfortunately, all of the songs have a somewhat similar sound, making the album less exciting to listen to. Again the CD is enjoyable, and quite a few of the songs are humorous to say the least, but I would hope that perhaps their next release would offer a better quality of sound to allow listeners to fully appreciate the band's musical talents and writing abilities.
