RYAN ADAMS

This North Carolinian may have found "Gold" in "New York."  Ryan Adams, former front man of the under-appreciated band Whiskeytown, has maintained his reputation as a prolific songwriter and alt-country mainstay with both his 2000 solo debut, Heartbreaker and again with his latest release, Gold,  both critically acclaimed.  Adams' refreshing sound is a result of diverse influences ranging from the Dead Kennedys and Sonic Youth to Gillian Welch and David Rawlings.  From Gold's track one, "New York, New York," to the final track "Goodnight Hollywood Boulevard," Adams trades the weight of his broken heart for his listeners and carries them through his personal relocation to Los Angeles.  Even though Gold will find its fame in the timely tune, "New York" (a song written about an old New York flame), the album's depth is quite apparent in tracks such as "Nobody Girl," "La Cienega Just Smiled," and "Street Walkin Blues."
