The Safes: Boogie Woogie Rumble EP
[Pro-Vel]

Anyone still hungry for more Jim Diamond related madness? I sure as hell am, always. I cant seem to get enough of the level-pushing, white noise squall that squeezes out from underneath the door of his Ghetto Studios. The Safes new EP comes across as the same old lead guitar showcasin garage rawk at points, but thats not necessarily a bad thing. Fortunately for these four guys from Chicago, such is this case.

Boogie Woogie Rumble charges full force slaughtered drums, spazzed guitar leads and all filling my room with more mud than already cramps it up. Three OMalley boys and one outsider on clubs make up this monster-charged diesel engine raunch unit. The best song on this 10-minute, 5-song short is, of course, the closer Mental Wheelchair, which leaves me crumpled in my seat shaking for more.

Five songs were strung together here, including one instrumental; there must be another five out there ready for release already. Lets hear it. This is a shining, level-heavy, punk rock n roll continuation to a good career. With all the tracks marvelously recorded live in one take in just one quick afternoon, this little crank is by no means safe.
