Savory: The Chuck Shaffer Picture Show (In Hi-Fi) (EP)
[PA Records]

Truth be told, I waited on writing this Savory review until the last minute.  Whatever reasons I may have had for doing this are pretty much an aside, but the main one is that the first three times I attempted to listen to this record, nothing grabbed me.  Not a beat, not a groove, not a lyric nothin.

The opener Wait a Minute is actually five minutes of waiting for the song to exist, even though it never really does.  The lyrics are bland, and the music is even more tedious.  The bridge is the only promise the song brings.  And as a friend pointed out, the mix is crap.  The next song is almost five minutes long next.  My first thought on this third track is that these guys could benefit hugely from a well-produced studio recording.  Or just a good mix.  The lyrics dont really offer a clue as to what this third track is about; its called A Moments Hesitation.

The three members of Savory, Kenny Kominic (Singer/Drummer), Alex Clark (Bass) & Ryan Johnson (Guitar) have been making music together for almost five years.  It appears they have five releases under their belts, one being inclusion on their record labels 2001 sampler and one being this six-song EP titled The Chuck Shaffer Picture Show (In Hi-Fi).  A nice album title, but I think maybe five years is enough of this rock.  Whatever talent there is in this band, I dont think they are going to discover it together.  Perhaps exploration into solo projects wouldnt be bad idea.
