The Screwdrivers: Shape of a Bird in Transit
[Green Bean]

The Screwdrivers is a practical name for such an emotional band. This Connecticut outfit, while oftentimes sad, sounds truly sincere throughout this fine release.

One hears a lot of REM running through these tracks. This comparison goes deeper than being merely a musical likeness, however. For example, the song title Worlds Fair 1904 shows The Screwdrivers to be a group that shares Michael Stipes fascination with history. Even so, when the band sings, I wont talk and you wont listen, its clear this track is about something far more personal than any carefree day at the fair. The best song title of all, by the way, is one called Voted Out of the Solar System. Its six words smartly sum up how we all feel on our worst days. The worst pun song title (since were playing Rate the Titles) is The Dharma Bomb, which has wordy fun at the expense of a Jack Kerouac book name.

Rather than playing the role of Mr. Fix-It here, these Screwdrivers sound broken down for the most part. Nevertheless, this act sure does sad well.
