SHARIF

Sharif began writing songs camped out in his backyard, in Norfolk, VA. His musical influences include the tunesmith Brit pop of the Beatles, the subtle power pop of Evan Dando and Liz Phair, the sweet southern rock of Edwin McCain and, like virtually any musician growing up during the grunge era, the mournful, tortured rock of Kurt Cobain. Sharif and his music seem to have a pretty universal appeal, as Sharif has played to overwhelmingly warm reviews in clubs throughout Virginia and Washington D.C., as well as in clubs and coffeehouses across Europe during an eight month expatriate tour.  Sharif approached the Annex Group, an upstart artist development organization and indie label based in Charlottesville, VA that helped set him up with a handful of central VA music mainstays, including Chris Keup (of River fame) and Stewart Myers (formerly of Agents of Good Roots). The three retreated to New Hampshire to record Sharif's debut EP "Kiss the Moon."
