Shellycoats:
Pleasure Seekers Anonymous
The Shellycoats have that standard Alternative Pop-Rock sound that has efficiently inundated the mainstream since the mid-1990s; however they seem to be fully aware that their chance of commercial success is about as likely as Candlebox making a noteworthy comeback. That being said, Pleasure Seekers Anonymous is a record for those who regard Reality Bites and Empire Records as the two greatest movie soundtracks ever made. Every song on the record offers up ample amounts of heartrending lyrics about how it really was great with "me and you." If you tire of that self-conscious style, then this effort falls upon deaf ears. Most people out there in musicland have enough records dealing with heartbreak and don't rightly have the shelfspace for another addition, but there must certainly be a percentage of the teenager and twenty-something population that will warmly welcome these eleven songs of tormented lyrics sprinkled over bouncy pop-rock. Nothing more can be said about this record, as it is troublesome to distinguish one song from the next. Simply put, nothing on this album speaks to the general Rock N' Roll crowd so this is truly a specialty record for those selected few who care if bands like Bettie Serveert and The Cranberries are still together making music.
