Shoddy Workmanship:
The World's Greatest Shit in the Universe
(EP)
[self-released]

You know the feeling all too well. You pick up an album from a band youve never heard of before and you decide to listen to it. You're blown away because it's so good, and you have to tell all of your friends about it. Unfortunately, that doesn't happen here. Shoddy Workmanship offers the album World's Greatest Shit in the Universe and sadly, it's just that: shit. Since they don't have a problem calling it shit, no one else should either. The opening track, "I'm Goin' Out" is a shameless ripoff of the Romantics' "What I Like About You" except for the fact that while the Romantics were playful in an innocent sort of way, the lyrics to this song are immature at best. You know that you are entering a world of confusion when you are hearing "I'm going out and I'm gonna get laid/Nothing can stop me after I get paid". The rest of the album remains a mystery as well. One is left to wonder why people even bother releasing songs that sound like outtakes from a Phish album ("That 70's Song") or some sort of sub-par Talking Heads song ("Birthday"). This EP suffers, because the sound is unclassifiable to the point where it presents a problem to the listener, who can't settle into a general mood for all five tracks. Perhaps Shoddy Workmanship are in fact talented musicians, but you wouldn't know it from just listening to this release.
