The Shy
Trafficker: Hurt Seconds
Each day I spend a ridiculous amount of hours on the computer, both at work and at home. Sometimes I fall asleep on my keyboard, and sometimes I accomplish more than I thought I would. What is the difference, and how can I keep myself from drooling all over my mouse pad when my boss walks by? Its simple really. Its similar to when I take a drive over the mountain passes at night and have to put in some Nine Inch Nails. Its all about the right music for the situation. From San Antonio, Texas comes The Shy Trafficker, a math rock band with the solution. The group wants to pull the listener into their volatile yet playful world. They will paint you beautiful scenery and keep you climbing to the next ledge with the desire to keep going further. With both upbeat rhythms and beautifully layered guitar lines, this music is certainly easy on the ears. While The Shy Trafficker is primarily instrumental, different members of the band sing sparingly throughout the album. The vocals sound a bit weak and unsure of whether they should in fact be making any appearance at all. Having the vocals take a back seat to the music is not a bad thing since this is really where the band soars. The nine tracks on this album vary in length with the shortest song at 4:04. Each one has a driving rhythm that pulls you along and keeps building on what was started. For those who love the music of such bands as Maserati, Explosions in the Sky, and The Mercury Program, this is for you. With plenty of key changes, chord manipulations, and complexity, the songs will keep you going forward and wanting more.
