The Silent Audibles: Assimilation (EP)
[self-released]

I knew there was a problem when I looked at New Jersey band The Silent Audibles web site, and they are described as being "NJs illest rock band." "Illest." Right. Leaving aside for a moment the issue of whether illest is or is not a word, lets just remember that that is how the Audibles would like to be remembered: as an ill band. How does being ill translate to the music? Apparently, it means ripping off Limp Bizkit in every way imaginable.

It seems appropriate then, that they chose Assimilation for the title of this EP. For basically, what they do on the album is assimilate the sound of hard rock music being played on the radio right now and incorporate it into their songs. The lyrics are nothing to go crazy over, but of course, thats not what you listen to this sort of music for. Therefore, its annoying and a bit disappointing that the guitars and drums are nothing but cookie-cutter, and the vocalist fails to sound original in any way.

Im sure this band would whip up a NJ high school audience into a veritable frenzy, and Im sure that the local rock station would put their single into medium rotation. However, this album is nothing to write home about. There is no discernable theme; nor is there a huge auditory difference among any of the songs. All in all, I would like to hear more silent and less audible from this band, because the audible is starting to make me ill.
