The Silent Type: Hot and Bothered
[self-released]

For anyone out there whos grown tired of the latest trends in mainstream and indie bands, The Silent Type has released an album that is a total composition of unrefined, unabashed rock.  Hot and Bothered isnt breaking any new ground and wont overly impress you with the bands talents, but theyre loud, theyre fun, and sometimes thats really all you need.  With only one quick listen, the listener is well aware that The Silent Type is anything but

Overall, Hot and Bothered boasts a raw energy that is rarely seen.  However, if youre looking for just this sort of band, there are a few warning labels for the album.  The first track, Music is a weak start and doesnt do any service to the later tracks; but if youre willing to stick it out, The Silent Type will reward you with its aggressive, high-energy release.  You will find yourself swept up in the assault of power chords and screeching lyrics, and every now and then you may catch a glimpse of potential.   Its moments like the classic rock style of Pagan Philosophy, followed with a clipped acoustic break with Tidal that leave you with the impression that The Silent Type may have more to offer than just volume.

Unfortunately, even with these hopeful moments, their hard hitting rock style is victim to the misfortune of a garage style recording.  Many of the tracks sound muffled, and the balance is off, leaving you assaulted by over accentuated drumming and screeching vocals.  The guitar is all but lost in a sea of static, and although the photos show a bassist, hes only a hint in the background.

But, despite these drawbacks, Hot and Bothered is a much needed break from the watered down pop styles that are dominant these days.  Even though they wont blow you away with groundbreaking composition or monumental lyrics, if youre looking for a change, Hot and Bothered is a welcome choice.
