 The Slags: Self-Titled

The Slags so consistently defy description that they make it very difficult for a reviewer to easily sum them up into a small group of nice, neat, stylistic adjectives.  Bravo - thank you!  What a relief.  Citing influences as varied as The Stooges, The Beach Boys and Prince, this is a group of musicians who dont flinch at the crossing of genre boundaries.  Their music is infused with the fast beats of early punk, the power chords and screaming guitars of heavy metal and just a dash of occasional indie rock harmonies and ska tempos.  The accessories of Tommy Nordahl, Danny Biondo, and Marty E, pictured on the cover of the album, only further the listeners confusion.  Is that black leather?  A studded punk rock belt?  A giant tattoo?  Are those Gucci sunglasses?  A dangling star earring?  Born rock-stars with individuality are hard to come by, but the Slags, with their hodgepodge of musical influences and personal style are a welcome change from the pigeonholed bands pervading the markets.  Listen, and be surprised.
