So Many Dynamos: When I Explode
[Skrocki]

Maybe its my good mood and my week in the sand talking, but this is a really good album. I am extremely impressed and pleased with every turn and corner of this album I cant find anything to complain about, as everything is placed perfectly. I dont even want to say its a well-constructed album like I sometimes find myself guiltily reverting back to when I cant find too many nice things to say. I feel like that would be too cold of me to say and not giving So Many Dynamos what they clearly deserve. I think I would even go so far as to recommend this album to the other reviewers on the site, and were a tough bunch to please as weve proven.

As Im listening to this again while writing, I just want to mention how in track six (We Panic in a Pew), the band beautifully and surely subconsciously ape Outcasts Ms. Jackson quite nicely. Just to warn everyone out there, this is for those either deeply missing The Dismemberment Plan or wishing they knew who they were, so, everyone I guess. Dance punk, indie disco, booty punk rock, fun, whatever you want to call it; So Many Dynamos has got it. However, dont just pass them over as another glorified rip-off band. Sure, The Dismemberment Plan probably was what they listened to while writing the album, and maybe some Piebald or some fun pop-punk, but these guys dont ever slip off the edge into boring or overheard. Q & Not U is also a heavy influence here with the angular guitar work and quirky rhythms, but I still remain considerably excited rather than distraught, because these guys are actually joining the genre, not trying to tag along. Welcomingly experimental and fun, these guys should not be allowed to slip by unnoticed.

Despite the fact that they have a great DC sound, So Many Dynamos hail from St. Louis, Missouri welcome to the table St. Louis and after getting through most of this review, I only just discovered they were recorded by Jason Caddell from the Dismemberment Plan. (I guess thats what I get for not reading up on them.)

So check them out. These guys have hoisted the flag without stomping on it or letting it touch the ground and are now rightful flag bearers of the genre. And the lyrics are really good too; I cant let that go unmentioned. Buy this really.
