Sodium Channel: Reverse Obvious EP
[self-released]

Too often I sit down to listen to a new release and am struck with the general feeling that the music Im hearing isnt much different from anything else out there.  This is not the case with the San Francisco band, Sodium Channel and its new EP release, Reverse Obvious.  Moments of a universal pop appeal are mixed against electronic composition, creating a sound in which Coldplay meets Radiohead.  After hearing four tracks of this beautiful alternative rock, Im on my knees begging for more.  From atmospheric ballads to hard hitting rock anthems, Sodium Channel does it all.  Its a great compilation and a glimpse into the bands potential.

Opening with Manhattan, the band starts with a softer sound that soon deteriorates into angst-filled cries and melodic guitars, setting you up for the high energy gritty garage sound of the latter tracks.  The EP hits its high note with Novocain.  Screaming guitar melodies swirl as pounding power chords and a heavy bass drive forward in an unstoppable motion.  My only complaint is that this is the last track of the release, and Im left wishing for more.

This high energy release is a definite must for anyone looking for some solid alternative rock.  Sodium Channel has a great first start, and there is no doubt that they are a band worth noticing.
