Soiled: Mindnumb EP

The Mindnumb EP by Soiled is short collection of electronic compositions with widely varying sounds. Unfortunately these pieces, which mostly hover around 2 minutes in length, come off more like brief musical ideas than actual songs. This is not to say that there isnt anything rewarding here. Soileds compositions are sharp and polished, with an emphasis on complex percussion and broken melodic elements. The drums are big and forward in the mix and interact well with more abstract rhythmic elements; however, the tracks are rarely long enough for this interplay to ever develop beyond its initial introduction. There are a lot of interesting things going on here, and they make me excited about a full-length release by Soiled. I would really like to see some of these ideas mature a little more, especially the tracks Mind Numb and Bad Vowel Moment at WP Primary in which the fractured harmonies and driving rhythms are best exemplified.
