South Bay Bessie: It's About Time
[Acutest]

South Bay Bessie is not a bad band.  However, the problem is that they are not a good band either.  They play the kind of middle of the road punk rock that is mildly entertaining, yet also eminently forgettable.  Their sound is reminiscent of Screeching Weasel without the humor or songwriting chops, or maybe Fifteen without the emotion.  Not that they lack songwriting skills or that they play apathetically, rather their songs, which may have good qualities, lack that indeterminate thing that makes some genre-locked punk rock sound better than others.   With titles like I Hate Math and (I Never Really Liked) Purple Anyways I dont really need to get too into depth and the specifics of this band.  Go to any dingy club in any town, and you will find bands like this.  Save yourself some time and go out and have a drink at one of these clubs, and you will see a band like this.  Basically, South Bay Bessie is an apocalypse of mediocrity.  Not necessarily a bad thing, but not really a good thing either.
