Statutaur: Self-Titled
[self-released]

Statutaurs self-titled album conjures up one image in my mind: goth kids going surfing.  This is the darkest surf album Ive ever heard, and it works just fine.  In addition to the usual treble/reverb surf guitar sound, lots of weird programming effects and distortion are used.  This is the Ventures teaming up with Nine Inch Nails.

The first song, Man Handle, starts off like a typical surf tune but quickly devolves into a dark, violent, evil surf-fest.  Its like surf went through an alternate dimension and found itself there only this mirror surf had a goatee to denote its dark nature.

The next song, Freight Elevator, doesnt even start out as good.  When it was born, it killed its mom and the attending nurses.  The whole tune is chaotic and twisted.  In the middle, the screams of its victims are put on display for your listening pleasure.  Tons of little programming bleeps and whistles are heard throughout.

The rest of the album plays out in a similar fashion, but never gets tired or predictable.  This album should be in every home in America.  People should get married with it playing in the background.  Really.
