The Stereolites: Self-Titled
[self-released]

The Stereolites are another New York band with a demo to shop.  Members Kevin Sacco (vocals/lead guitar), Jay Sharp (vocals/rhythm guitar), Denny Kwon (vocals/bass) and Mike Finnerty (vocals/drums) have been together in some form or another for two years now, with Denny the bassist being a fresh addition.

This seven-song demo was recorded in four weeks at the Institute for Audio for free.  The band feels the need to mention this fact in their press release information; therefore I feel the need to bring it to attention because it explains the not-so-great recording.  I really think the recording is something most bands, especially bands trying to get noticed or recording their first EP, should spend a good amount of time, energy and money on.  It is your calling card, and if it aint good, no one is going to bother listening to it for any amount of time.  They might come see you play live, but its up in the air.  For me, these guys sound like they could definitely be halfway decent, and I might catch them live if they played in Jersey and I had nothing better to do Otherwise, not so much.

By far, my favorite track on the album is Another Mans Girl.  Its got finger snappin, a very recognizable bass track, and a little tambourine for fun.  Its melodic and shows that the band could have some potential.  Over Now is kitschy with a day at the beach intro of waves crashing and children playing. I almost felt like I was at the beach, and that was really nice since it is currently 8 degrees.  So if anything, I can put that little 3-second snippet on repeat and pretend I am reading a book and maybe this pop heavy music will be that much better.
