THE STONE ROSES

The Stone Roses were undeniably one of the defining British guitar bands of the late 80s and early 90s. Hailing from Manchester, England and forming in 1985, the core of the band comprised Ian Brown (vocals), John Squire (guitar), Alan Reni Wren (drums), and Gary Mani Mounfield (bass guitar). They were one of the main indie bands, alongside The Happy Mondays, The Charalatans, and The Inspiral Carpets, which were responsible for the infamous Madchester music scene of the late 80s. But it was the Stone Roses who were to have the biggest impact upon the British music scene. The bands music fused 60's style hook-laden guitar pop with a contemporary rhythmic dance beat. The band began playing warehouses around Manchester, quickly gaining a loyal following. 1995 tour plans collapsed when Wren unexpectedly left the band, he was replaced by Robbie Maddix (formerly of Rebel MC). They embarked on a short American tour which ended with Squire being injured in a bike accident. Squires accident forced the band to cancel what was to be their UK comeback a headlining spot at the 25th Glastonbury festival.  In the spring of 1996, Squire announced that he was leaving the band and the Stone Roses officially disbanded a few months later. Squire founded a new band called Seahorses, while Brown pursued a solo career, and both have enjoyed relative success.
