The
Streetwalkin' Cheetahs: Maximum Overdrive
First of all, I am not a huge fan of punk rock like this. It just isnt my thing. So when I looked at the track listing and saw 18 tracks, I thought dear lord, this is gonna be a long day. And though some parts of the album are laughable (and a little dated), I actually kind of liked it. This album is a re-release of the Streetwalkin Cheetahs first album Overdrive, which was first released six years ago. Its a little straightforward, and often a bit annoying, but a few of the songs caught my attention, and got themselves stuck in my head. Especially Little Tokyo, which sounds like it should be on a Tony Hawk soundtrack. All I Want is a slow tune with a catchy hook. However, most of the songs do have a tendency to get lost as noise with silly lyrics. Burn Silver Lake Burn is my least favorite track, just coming off as very cheesy. So what about the sound? Its difficult for me to draw many comparisons since, as I mentioned, I am not a huge fan of this style of music. For the most part, the guitars play straightforward progressions, and the singer spits out lyrics with a snarl. That being said, sometimes singer Frank Meyer sounds like the scary dude from Motorhead, so I half expect Ace of Spades to appear on the track somewhere. That stems from my Tony Hawk soundtrack knowledge, as well as the fantastic episode of The Young Ones, where Motorhead jams in the living room. But I digress. In conclusion, The Streetwalkin Cheetahs didnt change my opinion on this style, but I will say the album was much better than I anticipated. I think I will pass it on to one of my friends who is more into this stuff. He looks like Darby Crash.
