Summerset:
Self-Titled
From Wilmington, NC comes this new EP by Summerset. The six songs here are all short and sweet, and they sound to me like perfect college radio tracks. The sound may not be completely unique, but it is reminiscent of a band like Superchunk or perhaps a more relaxing version of The Rentals. The songs are fresh, original compositions though, and I like the warm vocals that are crisp and easy to hear. Basically the stand out tracks like Financial District and Center of Attention build up a solid acoustic rhythm track, but mix it in with a few licks of the electric guitar and some synthesizer. Holland Tunnel at 1 am quaintly describes the east coat drive up to visit a New York girlfriend with some buzzing electronic sounds, but mostly Summer Set just sounds like a solid indie rock band that can hold their own. Anyone who likes The Anniversary would probably enjoy Financial District as much as I do. Listening to Summersets tale of wasting time during work makes me think this would be the perfect EP to play in the office. It doesnt demand your attention, but it quietly invites you to relax and mellow out to some good grooves.
