TEENAGE FANCLUB Forming in
Bellshill, Scotland in 1989. The original quartet had its roots
in the late 80s Glasgow music scene. The bands grungy pop,
with its densely melodic sound and classic guitar pop was likened to
vintage acts, Big Star and Badfinger. Their infectious melodies, bitter lyrics
and radiant pop quickly won them an army of critical fans. The bands music
became increasingly mellow as time progressed with a clear influence of The
Byrds on their style. Bandwagonesque topped Spin magazines
best-of-1991 year-end list in the face of staggering competition including
Nirvanas Nevermind. They rode the Britpop wave in the mid-90s and in 1997, Songs
From Northern Britain, reached number three in the British charts.
Although the band has never captured the publics imagination like some of
their contemporaries, their consistency and longevity is unrivalled.
